Movies With Killer Soundtracks II
By Jillianne Hamilton
(07/07/09)

Some of these movies were... well, it doesn't matter. But their soundtracks were awesome. And that's what this series of articles is about. For more info on these movies/soundtracks, click on an album cover.

TWILIGHT To be quite honest, I didn't fall in love with Twilight (2008) like most of the world did. However, I did fall in love with the soundtrack. I discovered the gorgeousness that is "Eyes On Fire" by Blue Foundation while watching a recent episode of So You Think You Can Dance. Upon further investigation, I found out it was on the Twilight soundtrack. And upon even further investigation, I found that the whole darned thing was very cool. Big names like Muse, Paramore, Linkin Park, MuteMath, Collective Soul and Iron & Wine make this CD worthy of your eager ears.

DAN IN REAL LIFE Again, this movie didn't do much for me (despite starring Steve Carell) but the soundtrack was really lovely. A cornicopia of Sondre Lerche tunes makes the soundtrack to Dan In Real Life (2007) light, relaxing, soothing and very enjoyable. Lerche is joined by Regina Spektor in "Hell No" and A Fine Frenzy puts a new twist on the R&B classic "Fever". Not only is this album a winner, it suits the mood of the film perfectly, especially the main track, "My Hands Are Shaking."

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA I'm such a huge "fan" of 2004's Phantom of the Opera, it's not even funny. It's kind of a special thing with me and my Mom. She has the DVD and soundtrack, I have the 2-disc special edition. (Wow. We're a bit nerdy, I just realized.) Anyway, the soundtrack is stellar. No, I'm not an opera fan, by any means, but it has lots of rock elements to it. Andrew Lloyd Webber even said the title track of Phantom is "rock and roll, masquerading as opera." And that's the genius of it.

Until next time, keep watching and listening!
