Movies With Killer Soundtracks IV
By Jillianne Hamilton
(11/27/09)

This is a special edition of Movies With Killer Soundtracks. I've recently fallen in love with 1960s history, culture and, particularly, music. There's no denying it: the music of Sixties is simply incredible and really changed everything. Here are 3 soundtracks to 3 great films.

FORREST GUMP Forrest Gump (1994) is one of those movies I can watch over and over again without getting tired of. The music likely has a lot to do with that. Some notable musicians on the 2-disc soundtrack is Joan Baez, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, The Doors, Simon & Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, The Supremes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Elvis Presley and many, many more.

TAKING WOODSTOCK Taking Woodstock (2009) is a darling movie starring Demetri Martin (also a darling) as Woodstock organizer Elliot Tiber. This colorful festival film of peace, love and a man's frustration in his own life has quite the soundtrack. Names on the album include Crosby, Stills & Nash, Grateful Dead, The Doors, Canned Heat, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and The Band.

PIRATE RADIO (THE BOAT THAT ROCKED) Pirate Radio, also known as The Boat That Rocked (2009) in some countries, is a fun British film bragging quite the ensemble cast (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, Rhys Darby and Kenneth Branagh). They couldn't even fit all the songs from the movie on 2 CDs! Contributing artists include The Kinks, The Who, The Turtles, The Beach Boys, The Troggs, Jimi Hendrix, Cat Stevens, David Bowie and many others!

Other soundtracks of '60s interest are: Across The Universe, I'm Not There and Factory Girl.

Until next time, keep watching and listening!
