2010 Music PEI Awards!
By Jillianne Hamilton
(1/19/10)
The 2010 Music PEI Awards are upon us! Included in this year's list of outstanding nominees are some familiar names, as well as some promising new talent. Three of those nominated bands include Two Hours Traffic, The Sidewalks and Milks and Rectangles.
Two Hours Traffic are nominated for Songwriter of the Year, Group of the Year, Album of the Year and Pop Recording of the Year.
According to THT singer/guitarist Liam Corcoran
, the nomination for Songwriter of the Year means a lot.
"That being said, Album of the Year is a special one too, because it recognizes the entire album, not just one tune."
The Danks, who tour with THT, are also nominated for Alternative Recording of the Year their new album Are You Afraid of The Danks.
"We actually share two members with The Danks- Andy on bass and Alec on guitar. It is great to see them get recognized, as they have been working their butts for years," Corcoran said. "We have toured the country twice with The Danks and we are all close friends. I'd love to see them take home some hardware."
"Skalternative" band The Sidewalks are nominated for New Artist of the Year, Group of the Year and Alternative Recording of the Year.
Frontman Chris Gallant said the band is very excited to be nominated.
"With countless hours of writing, jamming and gigging put into this album, we're happy to see that somebody is able to listen to us and line us up for a potential award."
All three of the nominations are special in their own way, Gallant said.
"To be nominated for Best New Artist is fantastic because of the sheer amount of bands that got started gigging in 2009. Group of the Year is really neat- we're honored to be put on the list with those recognizeable PEI acts."
Milks and Rectangles are also nominated for New Artist of the Year
, in addition to Pop Recording of the Year.
M&R singer/guitarist Christian Ledwell the nomination list this year is a real testament to the amount of professional songwriting going on right now on PEI.
"It’s a real compliment to see our name beside all our favorite local records."
PEI's music scene is exceptional right now, Ledwell said.
"On top of the list, there are artists like Boxer the Horse and The Robots who going to be releasing great records in the next few months."
