Klarka Weinwurm - EP
By Jillianne Hamilton
(07/11/09)

KLARKA WEINWURM - EP Klarka Weinwurm strums her guitar softly, sings sweetly, writes songs that could be mistaken for poetry and shows all the big boys that girls can do sensitive folk rock too.

Her debut album, titled EP, is composed of six wayward tunes for the weary traveler, six songs for the sad souls who watch the sunrise after staying up all night.

But there's definitely something dark about some of Weinwurm's melodies. "Evil All Around" starts out light and sentimental but then turns eerie somewhere in the middle. It's this different technique that makes this album exceptional among the stacks of folk albums out there.

"Wood Stove Fires" is a treat for the ears. To round out the album, it ends with "True North", definitely a high note on the album.

A nice little package of folk songs for the broken-hearted. A+.
