Myles Deck & The Fuzz - Police Cops
By Sarah Henderson
(07/01/09)

MYLES DECK & THE FUZZ - Police Cops Police Cops is the 2008 EP from a band who goes by Myles Deck and the Fuzz. "Police Cops", a Simpsons reference (I hope!), won me over even before I heard their 3 track EP and I must say, I was not disappointed. Myles and his boys describe themselves as "a punk rock band with a swagger that plays hard and feels like hell the next day" and yes, they deliver.

The first couple of times I listened through this EP, I could not put my finger on what I was being reminded of. I want to describe MDATF as a mixture of The White Stripes and The Stooges, with a dash of Dead Kennedys and some of Mick Jagger’s swagger thrown in for good measure. Sounds like a good combination to me.

The title track, "Police Cops", is absolutely the song that stands out during listening. It has a raw and abrasive quality that the other two don’t quite match up to. But, I am not complaining; the succeeding two tracks give the album a polished sound really make me take this band seriously. It shows off their talent (which I really appreciate) rather than being overly annoying "in your face" punk rock. This band is loud as hell but they are also tight as hell and sometimes I forget the two can go hand in hand.

Now my advice to you is to buy this 7” (which was produced by Joel Plaskett- that’s some serious Halifax cred right there) and give it a spin on your record player. Check out their MySpace for tour dates, a music video and more information about their label. Happy listening!
